Review of FIFA 09

Review of FIFA 09

I have been playing FIFA since 1998. I played on the PC version until FIFA08 when I switched to the PS3 for the online play. I also tested FIFA 09 on a friends PSP but not as happy. I can tell you that FIFA 2008 is vintage in terms of graphics, game play and also the different modes of games available (be a pro, online unranked, ranked online, interactive league etc.) compared to FIFA 09Today in version 09 we find all these game modes.

Playability / game play

The version 09 has great playability. The game is very fluid. It gives a feeling of freedom of movement that is becoming more common in these kinds of games. The player’s actions and movements that you initiate immediately happen in the game. It is wonderful how you have such great control over your players.

The referees are on the ground, and when you play against AI, the referee is much more fair than in the previous version. It gives total freedom for you to define your strategies of attack / defense.

I find that the shooting is more difficult, the ball easily getting the height right on FIFA 08 was easier, and one on one against the goalkeeper is not as good either. But the difficulty adds to the realism. I would add that the game is fully accessible to a neophyte or the experienced footballer. That’s an important point, few sports simulation have they are often only for experts or beginners.

Music / atmosphere

One thing that I find interesting is that the game offers different languages. Europe has been doing this for years but this is the first time America has done that. It is fun to play it in Spanish for the feel of watching Soccer on the Spanish stations.

As to the fan atmosphere, I think all would agree that EA excels in this area with the chants of supporters, the comments (sometimes irritating in their repetition), crowd noise etc. You are immersed in the atmosphere of a soccer match.

Finish Product

The graphics are a bit better than the 2008 version, especially the bleachers, the stadium and supporters. It was also the referee on the field with the referees who touches up their flag as required. The colors are exciting; the soundtrack is present and rich.

The video demo is also very well done even if it does nothing to the play, it adds to the atmosphere when you take the time to look around at the rest of the game.

The online version is great it is better then FIFA 08. I had the opportunity to play online; I had problems sometimes with time of latency or broken connections. But these problems are mainly related to quality of the connection of 2 players and are still better then FIFA 08, I would say that I have mostly good experiences online more then bad.

If you love soccer you will enjoy this game it is the best game of its kind.

FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

Yes, sports fans its finally here again: the world cup is coming! That means a new World Cup game is coming too. If you love the beautiful game then you will love this FIFA World Cup 2010 video game review. FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa was just released for the Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, iPhone, and the PS3 as the official game for the South Africa FIFA World Cup 2010. While there are many soccer games, since this is a World Cup year I think that if you are going to get any soccer video game then FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa should be the game.

The crazy thing about FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa is that it features almost 200 teams, in fact it features 199 which is all but 5 members of FIFA. The teams that did not make it were teams that did not participate in the 2010 World Cup Qualifying rounds. All the FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa venues will be included as well as one venue from each World Cup region.

The downside of this game is it is just a generic soccer game. If you already have a recent soccer game and don’t have much money or don’t like soccer that much, then even I have to admit that this game isn’t for you.

The graphics are amazing but nothing new. The music is new and very international with lots of music from around the world giving a truly international fill to FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa. I think the music is one thing that separates this game from other soccer games. While we are all really here for the soccer and not the music and the music will probably go unnoticed I still think it is a great addition and deserves to be mentioned. of course you will have online play which is a must these days.

Some differences between FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa and FIFA 10 is that the altitude will play a role in a teams stamina. Teams used to high elevations will play better then teams that are not used to it. This would be a little much for simple gamers and something I would expect for the hardcore fans but since this is a game that will be for hardcore soccer fans I think that it is actually an added bonus. Some tweaking has been done on penalty kicks and another interesting change from FIFA 10 is that they are reusing the scenario mode from the last World Cup game where you can play scenarios from previous World Cups.

All and all FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa is a good game if you like soccer games. Being the world’s favorite sport most people will love this game but being in America not so many Americans will be excited unfortunately.
